Topic: International Collaboration plays a crucial role in the fight againts the illegal importation of drugs into Malaysia
Malaysia’s strategic location makes it a key transit point for global drug routes, with its proximity to international shipping lanes and porous borders contributing to the illegal drug trade. International partnerships are crucial in combating this issue, involving information sharing, joint operations, and coordinated efforts. Law enforcement collaboration between Malaysian agencies and international counterparts enhances capabilities, but challenges like differing legal frameworks and jurisdictional issues persist. Successful joint operations highlight the importance of international cooperation. Future strategies include strengthening partnerships, increasing intelligence-sharing, and developing unified approaches to address evolving trafficking methods.

Topic: Leveraging Forensic Data Analysis to Combat Illegal Drugs Maritime Trafficking from Malaysia
Investigations and strategy development. Cooperation with neighboring countries includes information sharing and joint operations, while collaboration with Malaysian law enforcement focuses on shared jurisdiction and expertise. Future strategies aim to enhance collaboration by analysing trafficking patterns, tracking shipments, and profiling involved groups. Effective operation strategies and informed decision-making are essential to curbing maritime drug trafficking.

Topic: New Psychoactive Substances (NPS): Issues and Challenges in Malaysia
NPS pose significant health threats in Malaysia, targeting various demographics and contributing to a growing drug problem. The drug issue has evolved through four distinct waves, each with unique challenges. NPS, similar to traditional drugs, come in various types and are widely used due to their profitability and borderless market. Addressing the NPS threat requires global legal reforms, better understanding, and new enforcement tools like instant test kits and portable screening machines. Improved intelligence and training are also crucial. Comprehensive strategies are needed to effectively curb the NPS threat in Malaysia.

Topic: Is Decriminalization of Small-Scale Drug Possession For Personal Use Effective In Solving Malaysia’s Drug Addiction Problem And Alleviating Prison Overcrowding?
Decriminalization is the legislative process which removes prosecutions against an action so that the action remains illegal but has no criminal penalties or records. In Malaysia, prison overcrowding is a major issue, with 70% of inmates incarcerated for drug-related offenses. The 2024 Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Amendment Bill reflects a shift toward treating addiction as a health issue and could reduce prison overcrowding. Whether Malaysia should also decriminalise a small scale of drugs for personal use. Is it true decriminalisation will provide major benefits for public safety and health. Whether there is a need to strike the balance between public health and public security.
